About the Business
Formed in 1972 by Archie McKay we are pleased to celebrate our 40th year of trading providing an extensive range of wood flooring services and solutions. Having served his time with McDougals flooring then the UK’s foremost wood flooring company with offices in London, Manchester and Glasgow. Archie McKay decided to set up his own company at the age of only 21 when McDougals went out of business.
Taking some of the most experienced operatives from the defunct company Archie forged an experienced team. He picked up where his old employers had left off in undertaking contract flooring for industry and commerical clients in his native Glasgow and Scotland. His success in winning business and installing exceptional wood flooring meant the business expanded fast. Within a few years he had purchased and was operating out of a 600m2 building in the heart of Govan, Glasgow.
Throughout the early 80′s the desire for wooden floors in home properties increased greatly. A showroom was added to the Govan property to display the huge range of domestic wood floor products that was now available. The company steadily grew adding sales staff and surveyors to the team as demand for hardwood floors expanded. Central to the business since it’s inception has been the supply and installation of specialist sprung sports flooring for gyms, schools, sports halls, hotels and nigh clubs. To this day McKay Flooring are recognised as the UK leaders in providing and installing sprung sports flooring.
